We’ve all heard of a Chai latte. But did you know that any black tea or rooibos blend can be made into a delicious tea latte? Similar to a latte made with a shot of espresso, the trick is to use a concentrated amount of tea, which you cover with boiling water before adding milk. It’s actually super easy to achieve and only takes a few simple steps.
Start with any black tea or rooibos blend. Some of our favourites:
Black tea – Caramel Sweetheart, Red Velvet, Earl Grey Blue Star, Hugs & Kisses, Chai Black.
Rooibos (caffeine free) – Raspberry Vanilla, Chilli Chilli Bang Bang, Marzipan Superfan, Chai Red.
Hugs & Kisses, Caramel Sweetheart, Red Velvet
1. Add 3 spoons of tea to your magic filter. Use a perfect teaspoon to get the measure right (or a heaped teaspoon as a guess-timate!) Add a splash of boiling water, just covering the tea. Add a squeeze of honey or pinch of sugar (optional) to your tea concentrate and give it a stir. Now fill the magic filter up the rest of the way with hot milk / soy / almond milk. (If you don’t have a magic filter, you could add the ingredients to a saucepan on simmer instead)
2. Leave your tea and milk mix to brew for 3 – 5 minutes with the lid of the magic filter closed.
3. Place your magic filter on top of a mug. The tea will automatically filter through leaving the leaves behind. If you really want to get fancy you can use a milk frother to froth up a little extra milk and pour this out on top. Now sprinkle a little cinnamon and / or nutmeg over the top. Et voilà!
Feeling adventurous? Mix things up with one of the following combos:
Chai Black latte + a pinch of tumeric powder
Hugs & Kisses latte or Caramel Sweetheart latte + hot chocolate
Earl Grey latte + a few drops vanilla essence / dash of vanilla syrup
Chilli Chilli Bang Bang latte + fresh grated chilli & dark cocoa powder
